Lisa SALLUSTIO
Film director

Lisa received a grant to support her to write her next short film.

What is your artistic background ?
As I wanted my films to be political, I started by studying Political Science in Brussels, and then went on to study theatre at INSAS, where I was able to learn stage acting, directing, dramaturgy and the various aspects of directing (lighting, set design, costumes, make-up, etc.). These studies have enabled me to approach creativity from an interdisciplinary point of view. In 2016, I took the Fémis entrance exam in the directing section, so I did four years of film studies in Paris, during which I made three short films and two documentaries. I graduated in 2020 and directed Assoiffé.

How do you view your profession today ?
I think that cinema needs to be involved in politics in the broadest sense. To show new representations, to work on language, to surprise and make people think. It's an art form that costs far too much to be confined to entertainment. Cinema, by virtue of its scope and its ability to reach a wider audience, has major responsibilities.

How do you see yourself in 5 years ? In 10 years ?
If I think about myself in the world, I fear that ecological disasters will overwhelm my individual perspective. I see myself fighting against all odds to survive in a difficult world.
In my most optimistic dreams, and if I’m talking only about myself, I hope to become a dedicated and committed filmmaker who creates bridges between different milieus in order to elevate cinema to the level necessary for the creation of new utopias.
