Guillaume GOUIX
Film director

Guillaume received a grant to help him write his next feature film.

What is your artistic background ?
It is hard to describe myself, I always have the feeling that other people understand my work better than I do. I started acting in films at a young age. At 16, I was fascinated by a particular shoot, and this gave me the drive to keep going. Then I went to a theater school in Cannes, then a little theater on public stages, while continuing with cinema.
In 2011, the film "Jimmy River" earned me an emerging actor nomination at the Césars, and my first short film as a director received a special mention at the Cannes Film Festival Critics' Week. Since then, I have continued to act in films (notably with Rebecca Zlotowski, Lucas Belvaux, Guillaume Nicloux, Emmanuel Mouret, Sylvain Chomet, Cédric Jimenez, Julien Leclercq...), in series (Les Revenants, Une Affaire Française, Les Particules Élémentaires, Polar Park...) and at the same time I was able to direct two other shorts Mademoiselle for the Venice Film Festival and Mon Royaume for the Talents Adami Cannes.
My first feature film, Amore Mio, shot last year, was released in February 2023. It was a great experience, joyful, a true example of working as a ‘troupe’. Currently I am combining my work as an actor with writing my second film.

How do you view your profession today ?
Things change, as well as the way films are produced, made and consumed. But I want to believe that, at each turning point, a new way of creating emerges. I want to believe that new movements will be born, that new artistic desires will appear at the same time as others fall away.

How do you see yourself in 5 years ? In 10 years ?
Curious and productive I hope, with the necessary space just to be.
